A Reflection – 2018

A year best described as a roller coaster ride…

It’s currently 12.30am, Sunday the 13th of January 2019. I think (know) that I am already super late to the party, but I think I need to really express how I felt about my life in 2018. I am determined to get this post written up.

These are my top 9 posts of 2018, thank you so much for an amazing year!

It’s been a testing year, full of many hiccups and many firsts. One of the largest challenges was completing my university degree. I was stressed as hell trying to finish it, I had moments of doubt and frustrations expressed in my life update posts here. I think it was one of my biggest achievements to date, it was a giant relief. I wasn’t really convinced until I had walked up on stage and received that piece of paper.

I’ve started my career as an accountant/analyst in audit and tax! I’m really enjoying it, and am excited about learning new things every day. I’ve picked up a lot so far and it’s really great to see things I’ve learned in university reconcile.

One of my new year’s resolutions was to complete my first half marathon. I did, and it was great. It was a lot of hard work which I kind of outline here. It was a mental challenge, and something I wasn’t really ready for. I had injured myself 3 weeks prior, it made training difficult but I’m determined this year to do better. In fact, I’ve already started training for my next one coming up in March. Exciting!

Amongst getting my hair bleached to blonde and getting my ears pierced, I’ve made some progress with my views on my body image. You can read about my struggles here. Going to the gym has really helped with my confidence and self-esteem, and has forced me to think that I am on a journey to better myself. I know, it’s very cheesy to say! I still have a long way to go, but I know I need to stop the self-loathing and not be so harsh!

Now it’s 2019 and it’s time to commit to some resolutions I’m keen to satisfy this year:

  1. Career: – Continue to learn and work hard! Not to beat myself up when I mess up, I need to look at the bigger picture. With this in mind, I am committed to starting my Chartered Accountants qualification in April.
  2. Health:- Continue to exercise and keep up with my routine. I won’t be too hard on myself. I also aim to complete 3 half-marathons this year.
  3. Social:- I hope to be more open to meeting new people. I wish to get closer to my co-workers because we’re all team-mates and it’s important because we’re a small firm. Additionally, I would like to maintain strong bonds with my existing friends. I’d like to able to better communicate with them and express my thoughts more freely.
  4. I’d like to post more content on this blog more, I might need to invest in a camera! I want to get more creative with my styling and Instagram posts. Maybe 2 blog posts per month? Maybe too ambitious? Only time will tell.
  5. I hope to read more books.

Well, that is it, folks! I hope your year has at least been just as amazing as mine has been! All the best for the fresh new year and I hope to be back on here soon. Tar tar for now!
